Brrrr – hopefully this week’s weather was an aberration, and not an early start to winter. It looks like it has passed now, and a fine weekend is hopefully in stall.

This Weekend’s Events

Tomorrow our interclub teams are back in action, but only one of them playing at home. Our women’s Mary Alward team is away to Te Marua, our Div 2 men’s team is away to Mornington, our Div 5 men’s team is away to Shandon, and our Div 9 team is home to Te Marua. Best of luck to all our club representatives.

For the non interclubbers, our women’s Saturday Club are playing Medley 6 Par while for men it is Round 7 of the Autumn Cup, with this round being played on a stableford basis.

No events have been programmed for Sunday, so plenty of tee times are available for casual play.

Recent Results

Winners of the monthly medal for April were Trevor Brown in the blue division with a net 74 and Ramlal Misra in the white division with a net 72. Both Trevor and Ram have now qualified for the Top Dog trophy to played for at the end of the year.

And what a great day it was last Sunday for the Karori Event Centre fundraising tournament. We had 20 teams competing in the ambrose event, many of which were made up by visitors enjoying the ambiance of our course and the conviviality of our club. It began with a sausage sizzle before the start of play, courtesy of the Lions Club, with players also enjoying sandwiches made and delivered during play by the KEC Fundraising Committee, and as a special treat, pieces of Gipps St Café’s famous caramel slice. As well as being a lot of fun, there was also some very good golf played, with the winning team – The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, captained by Grant Honey – netting 54.875. Second was Lips Out, captained by Caroline Appleton, on 56.0, just ahead of CJ Hackers captained by Peter Jones on 56.5. Lips Out also had the best gross score, with 63. Graham Black won the Nearest the Pin, winning a $50 voucher from Gipps St Butchery. A big thank you to Fleur Nicholas for organising such a successful event (see attached photo of her team of Bluebelles - other photos from last Sunday will be on our Facebook page).

Upcoming Events

Our next all members event is our annual ANZAC Day tournament on Wednesday 25th April. This begins with breakfast in the clubhouse at 7.30am followed by a flagpole remembrance service at 8.00am before a shotgun start at 8.30am. It costs only $10 to enter, which includes the breakfast and covers prizes. A flyer is attached to this email – enter either by emailing/ringing the club, or by adding your name to the start sheet on the notice board in the downstairs foyer. It is an individual stableford event, but we also have a RSA versus the rest team challenge on the side. Anyone who served in the forces, or had a relative who does/did, is eligible for the RSA team – please advise which team you should be in when you enter.

Women’s Midweek Club

This week's storm meant that our Tuesday competition was postponed until Thursday. Congratulations to Hilary Holm who won with 19 stablefords. Chris Suggate was 2nd with 17 points and Heather Montgomery 3rd with 12 points.

The interclub team did very well on Thursday winning 3 - 1 against Miramar at Kapiti. Well done ladies.

Men’s Wednesday Club

Despite a few hardy souls fronting up to battle the elements, Wednesday Club was cancelled due to the weather, although those who did go out said they managed to play 18 holes without getting wet. A good number have turned up today to play in the casual Friday Club – interested players simply need to turn up on Friday mornings by 9.30 when foursomes will be made up.

Entertainment Books

Hard copies of these are now available for purchase from the shop. They cost only $65 of which the club receives $13 which we will put towards our capital program. They contain over $2000 of special deals which are able to be redeemed any time up to 30th June 2019. Digital versions are also available – click here to order one of these for your smart phone.

Fallen Trees between 4th and 5th Fairways

Willco Tree Services will be on site next Friday – 20th April – to cut down the trees that have been uprooted between the 4th and 5th fairways. Please keep well clear of them if you are playing those holes while they are working. Note that they will only be felling the trees – our green keepers will then progressively cut them up for firewood.

Happy golfing, play safely,
