Some more welcome rain this week, despite forcing postponement of the Wednesday Club to today. Not only will our fairways have appreciated the rain, but so too our green keepers who have been having to hand water our greens using the back up pump we installed last year, due to a pipe fault connecting the main pump. Well done guys, hope the pipe is fixed soon.

This Weekend’s Events

Tomorrow our Mary Alward women’s interclub team are away to Shandon while our women’s Saturday Club will be playing Medley 4 Nett. Our men’s interclub teams are also in action, with our Div 2 team away to Mahunga, our Div 5 team home to Shandon, and our Div 9 team away to Te Marua. For our non interclub men it is the 5th round of the Autumn Cup, with this round being played on a par basis.

On Sunday it is the Holland Cup quarter finals with some great match ups, fitting of the prestige of this event. The first group tees off at 10.02.

Best of luck to all weekend competitors.

Upcoming Events

Only a week to go now until our Jubilee Tournament on Saturday 17th March. If you haven’t already entered please do so by adding your name to the start sheet on the downstairs notice board or ring/email the club. It is open to all categories of members, including 9 holers and mid-weekers. The entry fee is only $5, all of which will go towards prizes. Friends and former members are also welcome, for whom the entry fee, including green fee, is only $10. It is a stableford event with existing members playing for the 1940 Cup that we were donated last month. But being St Patrick’s Day, we will also play an Irish Foursomes team event, whereby teams record the best stableford score of their members on holes 1 to 6, the best 2 on holes 7 to 12, and the best 3 on holes 13 to 18. We will have a shotgun start at 10am prior to which there will be complimentary tee and coffee in the club house from 9am, including Irish Coffee for those who wish to warm their cockles before play via a nod to St Patrick. And after play, while we are compiling the results, we will run a quiz, with teams being the same as the Irish Foursomes. The questions will all be related to the club, Karori / Makara, and golf.

Also not to be missed is the Karori Event Centre fundraiser tournament on Sunday 8 April. This will be the third year we have run this ambrose tournament to raise funds for the new event centre in Karori. Although the centre has now been built, its fit out is awaiting further funding. We have had full fields for both our previous events, so start forming your teams now and email your entries to Fleur Nicholas. A flyer and entry form is attached to this email, plus are available from the shop desk. The entry fee is $120 per team of 4 club members, cf $200 per team of non members.

The full 2018 program for the year is attached, and is currently being uploaded onto our website by Dot Golf.

Recent Results

Last Saturday our interclub teams fared as follows:

· Our women’s Mary Alward team lost 3-9 away to Boulcotts Farm

· Our men’s Div 2 team beat Boulcotts Farm 9-6 at home

· Our Div 5 team lost 4.5-10.5 away to Manor Park

· Our Div 9 team won 9.5-5.5 at home to Kapiti

Also last Saturday was the 4th round of the Autumn Cup with playing through champion, Ian Patience, again setting the early pace, winning that round with 39 stableford points. However, it is still early days and it is only the best 7 of the 10 rounds that count so everyone is still in contention.

Women’s Tuesday Club

There was a good turnout for the 9 holers’ Medley competition on Tuesday. We enjoyed playing the back 9 and the weather made for perfect golfing conditions. The winner was Ingrid Rampton with an amazing result of +5, 2nd was Trish Titcombe on -2 on a countback from Kath Robinson.

The midweek 18 hole competition played on Tuesday was the Hazel Buck Trophy. It is a stableford competition and was won by Nicola Lowe who got 39 stablefords points. Well done Nicola.

Have a look for the trophy when you are next in the club rooms, it is the teddy bear dressed

in golfing attire in the glass box.

Michele Wing received a golf ball for her 2 on hole number 6. Well done Michele.

Men’s Wednesday Club

Postponed until today, so a separate results report will be sent for this.

Harcourts Twilight Thursday 8 March

Despite the forecast the rain held off for Twilight Golf last night and 15 players braved a blustery southerly. Good scores were the order of the day however with the winning score of 24 by Jo Hurst, Gloria Grayson on 23 followed by a group on 21 points: Marg McCarthy, Richard Reith, and Tim Rivers. Jo also made an excellent 2 on hole 4, and Geoff Lee was the clear winner of the consolation prize. Don McCrone was the lucky winner of the spot prize.

With two weeks to go, there are a few players in contention for the overall trophy for best average score over the season with Phil Robinson, Gail Kirkland, Brad Weenes and Graeme Hoy at the top. Players need to play 10 rounds so still time to make an impact. The second trophy is for highest aggregate score, with Jo Hurst in the lead closely followed by Antony Kennedy and Wayne Cook.

Thanks to our sponsors, Harcourts Team Yip, Sara preparing the food and for everyone’s help with the great bbq dinner.

Our last competitive Twilight night will be on Thursday 22 March, and our final night on 29 March will be a social round of pitch & putt followed by dinner and our end of season prize giving. So there’s still plenty of time to come out and join us for 9 holes of social golf off the yellow tees, followed by a bbq dinner. All members and visitors welcome. First time players will get a $5 voucher. Tee off between 4.30 - 5.30pm.
