Our Friday Flash so often begins with a mention of the past week's weather and this issue follows that tradition with mention of the fine, dry conditions over the week interrupted only by an unexpected and heavy rain shower on Saturday that temporarily dampened the spirits of our interclub players who were caught out mostly without their wet weather gear. For the course that rain has continued to keep a welcome flush of green across the fairways. The weekend's forecast however sees some serious rain coming our way which may be disruptive to tomorrow's Diplomat's Day event. At time of writing the forecast is that the rain won't arrive until later in the afternoon so we're hopeful of a great day. Morning tea starts at 10am with a multi tee start to follow at 11am.
The Diplomat's Day has grown to be one of the club's more popular events with a field of 50 expected.
In regards to Interclub, our Div 9 team played Judgeford at home and recorded a solid 10,5 - 4.5 victory with excellent results posted by most players. Nelson Laureles and Geoff Par were our Players of the Day. Div 5 .hosted Titahi Bay for a 9 - 6 win and we've promised Mark Peck not to mention his tough day in the office. Div 2 played away at Paraparaumu Beach to record a 4 - 11 result with an excellent captain's knock by Jay Maaka. So after two matches, Div 9 has 14 points with Divs 5 & 2 both on 12 points. It's a long season with plenty more golf to come.
Now that it's February, eight of of the Miner's Arms pairs have completed their 3 games and with Kevin Norquay and Garth Mickel setting the early pace with a very respectable 141 points
A special plea for used balls for our pitch n putt. Anyone who has a cupboard full of pre-loved balls surplus to requirement, the club would much appreciate them.
Defibrillator - Heart saver
And of particular importance is that the club has a defibrillator located by the foyer door that faces the course. If you ever require it, be assured that it is very simple to use and once the top lid is opened, audio instructions will guide you through its operation.
And in this vein, we are very pleased to report that our esteemed life member Keith Gaskin is back on the course after being a recent recipient of the defibrillator's life saving features. He was out playing at Wednesday Club and is doing a lot better and we are glad to see him back on the course he helped build. Keith we are all so pleased your back :)
Wednesday Club results for 7 February:
Yet another fine day, a tad cooler perhaps but great conditions for the 31 enthusiasts entering the Par competition. Following were seven equally enthusiastic 9 Holers who really enjoyed the way the course had been prepared – well done the Greens Team.
In the Par Competition a count back declared Graeme Crocker as winner with +4 from Michael Cox also +4...! Golf balls were presented to those on +2 or better while Martin Leung emerged as the most persistent golfer on the day.
Victor Diem featured prominently this day. He was NTP but missed his putt thus paid the pig. He also claimed 1st price in the raffle with number 1 – taken as he explained because he thought he was filling out the start sheet!

The weekly Raffle: 1st Victor (1), 2nd Don Smith (20), 3rd Steve Robinson (6)

There were two “Twos”: Dick Adam (6), Lars Fagerstrom (2)

Notice was given that the Bogey Cup will be played for over the next two par rounds (individual players, aggregate par) commencing Wednesday 21st February.... weather permitting.

Recycling Bottles
We are now also recycling glass bottles :)
We do need some help and a big thank you to those that have taken some home in boxes to put out in their green bins.
If you think you can help even if its a small 12 pack of bottles completely empty (no dribbles) and put back in their cardboard box for easy removal from the club, this would be a great help :) thanks members
