Despite the rain this week, both the women’s Tuesday and men’s Wednesday clubs were able to continue their early starts to the year. A shame though about Twilight last night, especially given how good condition as course is – try and check it out for yourself this weekend.

Interclub

Not long now before men’s Interclub kicks off. We have set aside the tee times from 9.06 to 9.34 for interclub trials / practice – those interested are encouraged to book yourself one of these slots to get some match play practice prior to the competition beginning on Saturday 27 January.

Miners Arms

Those pairs who haven’t yet played their January round may wish to try and do so this weekend. The following weekend is Wellington’s anniversary long weekend and if you are planning to go away for it, then you will have only one more weekend after this one to complete your round.

Wednesday Club Results for 10 January 2018

Although the visibility coming over the brow of the Makara Hill Rd was down to about 50 metres in the low cloud, 32 made it for the Stableford Competition plus six 9 holers who followed them in what transpired to be very pleasant conditions for golf.

The winner with a very good round was John Markham +6 closely followed by Ian Patience with +5. Those with +2 or better were awarded prizes as was Graham Presland whose award for persistence must be admired!

The only “Two” of the day was on the 13th made by Satish Chandra, whilst being closest to the Pin on the 4th Dave Cullen made the first contribution into the new improved (larger) receptacle for missing that crucial putt for the Two.

The weekly Raffle was won by No 8 holder John Markham (His day!), 2nd No 20 held by David Sercombe and 3rd No 2 held by Don McCrone.

Nice to see Perry Florence and Terry Bastion who occasionally can join us for this popular mid-week golfing activity. Thus, should you have a few remaining days leave available why not earmark one or two to make it on a Wednesday, we have such fun.

Cheers, DS

Twilight

After our first cancellation of this summer last night, we look forward to Twilight’s resumption next Thursday. Tee off between 5 and 5.30pm for 9 holes of fun golf followed by a bbq meal. It costs only $15 for members (which covers the meal and prizes) and $20 for visitors. This is a great way to introduce new players to the club – if you know of someone who might be interested, invite them along, and remember, if it is your first outing at Twilight, you receive a $5 complimentary voucher for you to enjoy at the bar.

New Members

We are pleased to welcome the following new or former members who have joined this summer:

Heather Kerr, Paul Lundberg, Shaun Lundberg, Graeme Couper, Alan Cassidy, Elaine Rowse, Paul Kelly, Cameron Gilbert, Neil Skene, John Lewis, Andrew Harvey-Green, Dave Bennett, Chris Martin, Gloria Grayson, Lewis Goodwin, Myung Lee, Eun Lee.

We hope you are getting out onto the course regularly – don’t hesitate to contact the shop if you wish us to arrange playing partners or if you have any concerns about anything.

Drone Footage

We recently had some drone photography taken of our course and following its success, we will look at doing some more when the course returns to its emerald best in the Autumn. In the meantime, click here for a glimpse of what our first hole looks like from the air.:

Dustin Johnson Monster Drive

In case you didn’t catch it on the sports news earlier this week, click here to see Dustin Johnson almost acing the 433 yard (Par 4) 12th hole in the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii:

Dustin Johnson Near Ace

Admittedly a yard is slightly shorter than a metre but to put it in context, at approximately 400m, this is comparable to almost acing the 15th hole on our course.

50th anniversary

As detailed in one of the earlier Friday Flash excerpts celebrating the impending 50th anniversary of our club, the first incarnation of the club was over 100 years ago on Campbell’s farm in what is now central Karori. This montage features some early photos of the original club and its location:
