Everything is almost ready for our biggest day of the year – our annual Prodrive City of Wellington Classic golf tournament. The draw is out and the excitement is building. A big thankyou to our green keepers who have been doing such a sterling job getting the course ready for the event, despite the vagaries of the weather, and to all those who turned out yesterday at short notice to help rake the fairways clear of all the debris that had come down in Tuesday night’s storm. A big thankyou also to all those who helped out at the Golden Mop last Saturday and got the club house and surrounds looking so spick and span. And a special thankyou to Dave Cullen who got off his sick bed to come out and repair the damage done to the doors by the thieves who broke into parts of the club house last week.

Course Closed Tomorrow for Prodrive City of Wellington Tournament

Please note that the course will be closed tomorrow until about 2pm for the running of the CoW. With a large field teeing tee off via a shotgun start at 8.30 it will not be possible for anyone to try and sneak in a round before the tournament.

AGM Saturday 2nd December

Our Annual General Meeting on Saturday 2nd December beginning at 9.30am in the club house lounge is your chance to input to the future of the Club. Please set aside this date now, and please also consider making yourself available to stand for the Committee. Although we have managed very well this year with a small but hard working and dedicated committee, we would really appreciate some additional resource to help share the workload and to increase what we can do. Also, any Notices of Motion for the AGM need to be posted on the notice board by the end of next week.

Missing Shoes

Following last week’s break in Phil Robinson has noticed his well worn golf shoes have gone missing from the electric trundler shed. Its hard to believe the burglars would have stolen them, or that they would have been thrown out in the clean up, so if anyone can help solve the mystery, please let Phil know.

Harcourts Twilight Thursday 9th November

A very windy night did not detract from our best turnout to Twilight so far this season with 26 golfers competing for the prize money. Great to see a number of new faces and a growing number of regulars, and great support from our sponsors Harcourts Johnsonville.
The conditions resulted in lower scoring this week although a standout winner in Terry Bastion with on 24 points ($20). Antony Kennedy and Brad Weemes were joint second on 22 points ($15 each). Third place went to Marg McMarthy on 21 points ($10); and joint fourth went to Brigitte Boenisch-Brednich, Don McCrone, and Jo Hurst on 19 points ($5); The consolation prize was taken out by Asti Laldli and James Reith.

Thanks to Sara and Tiffany for preparing our bbq dinner, and to everyone who helped with the cooking and set up.

All members and guests are welcome - tee off between 4.30pm and 5.30pm every Thursday night. Wayne & Tim

Wednesday Club

Wednesday Club Results for 8th November:

Notwithstanding a very blustery night the day merged into a great opportunity for Golf enjoyed by 30 participants anxious to do well in the Stableford Competition perhaps as a prelude to the City Of Wellington this coming Saturday. Also including Malcolm Chapman, Keith Lawrence, John Barrett, Peter Rendell, Tony Bolton and Barry Williams welcome visitors from Ohariu Valley. These were followed by 10 Nine Holers who really enjoyed the sunshine and strangely light breeze considering the forecast – not to mention those yummy toasted sandwiches!

President Jono issued an appeal for volunteers for Thursday at 9.00 am at the Green Keepers Shed to assist in clearing up the debris about the course resulting from the previous night’s very strong winds.

With the Course in great condition not considering the effects of the storm mentioned above, some good scoring with the winner on the day by count back was Martin Leung from Luke Underwood both with 39 points – well played guys. Prizes were won by those with 34 points or more and a special prize for the best Ohariu player was presented to Malcolm Chapman. Naturally there’s always someone for whom nothing seemed to go right, an award was thus made to Barry Williams (Ohariu).

Nearest the Pin on the 4th was claimed by Graham Presland who sadly missed the putt and forfeited the usual in the clubhouse. There were 2 Two’s... Keith Lawrence (Ohariu) on the 4th and Don McCrone on the 13th.

The weekly Raffle was won by No 28 held by Peter Kennedy, 2nd No 4 Don McCrone and 3rd No 33 Patrick Cordue.

Cheers and more next week. DS

Fact is Stranger than Fiction

The natural habitat of our course attracts a range of wildlife who, like us golfers, enjoy the serenity and diversity of our surroundings. Somewhat unnatural though is this egg that was found, nestling among other full eggs, in an abandoned nest in the hollow of a tree trunk between the 15th and 16th fairways, on the left just before the 15th green.

For those of you who think it may be a hoax, click here for a story of a similar discovery with a Canadian Goose egg, and how it possibly happens.

The eleventh hole is another of those risk reward holes which makes our course so much more interesting than most. The green looks like it could be driveable to big hitters but wise old heads use a hybrid or fairway wood to avoid risking going into the creek, out of bounds on the right, or down the gully on the left. It is sponsored by Tustin's Panel and Paints, who are handily situated at 152-154 Karori Road with a parking bay where you can get any needed panel beating assessed.

While talking sponsors we would like to thank Terry Bastion who is providing the on course drinks for the CoW tomorrow, Erich Bucher of Haus Property Management for sponsoring the bbq, and of course Prodrive who are making a considerable contribution towards the prizes. Don’t forget that Prodrive’s relocation sale is still on, but it is nearing its final days so if you haven’t already been, don’t delay too much longer.

Happy golfing, play safely,

Your KGC Committee
