Hard to believe the year is half over and we are already into the second month of winter. Our course is in great condition for this time of year – hopefully most of our members are getting the opportunity to play it.

This Weekend’s Events

Tomorrow our women’s Saturday Club will be playing LGU 5 – Putting 5, while men members have another chance to win a Monthly Medal. Although the July Monthly Medal was played last week the weather did not play ball and we only had one entry – Erich Bucher. Well done Erich for braving the elements, you will be award a medal and will be eligible for the Top Dog play off at the end of the year. For those of you who planned to play last Saturday but understandably stayed at home, tomorrow is your second chance Saturday. Remember, the Monthly Medal is played in 2 divisions with the lower handicappers off the blue tees and the higher handicappers off the white tees – the computer will work out which division you are in when you print out a scorecard. It will double as a scramble – only $5 to enter.

Bathroom Update

Work has begun on the upgrade of the men’s bathroom. Although we currently don’t have a urinal, there are still some pan toilets available for use, but please be careful when entering the area as it is a work site. Once the upgrade is completed we will have 2 revamped showers, 3 new urinals, 3 new pan toilets, 3 new basins with mixer taps and vanity, a resurfaced floor and repainted ceiling, plus some reworked woodwork.

*Attention MEN please use your own toilet if possible. If you have to use the ladies please put the seat down.. Perry :) Thanks you!

We are pleased to advise that we have been successful in securing a grant of $10,000 from the Four Winds Foundation to put towards the cost of this upgrade. This grant has been made possible from funds raised by Four Winds Foundation gaming venues, one of which is the One Fat Bird in Marsden village.

Upcoming Events

Next Saturday, 15th July, we will be holding the Ken and Rose Rigarlsford tournament in which men and women members play together but for different trophies – men for Ken’s trophy and women for Rose’s. This event is open to all members, including mid week and 9 hole members keen for an 18 hole weekend round. There is no cost of entry, but we will have prizes in addition to the trophies, so enter now for this fun whilst competitive event – either add your name to the entry form on the notice board in the downstairs foyer or ring/email the club.

Men members should also lock into their diaries that the qualifying round of the Westward Ho Shield will be played on Sunday 30th July. The Westward Ho is a singles match play event that is played on handicap off the white tees. The qualifying round though is played on a best nett basis with the top 16 best nett scorers proceeding to the knock out rounds the following Sunday. A flyer and entry form will be posted on the downstairs noticeboard next week.

Tuesday 12th Ladies Day - Power Cut from 9am to 4pm

Meridian has informed us they are upgrading the lines in South Makara. Give yourself extra time and be careful on your way out to the club. Blank Score cards will be in there usually place. Lunch will not be available sorry ladies.

Score cards can be left in the ladies changing room and Sara will enter them Wednesday morning.

Wednesday Club

Wednesday Club results for 5 July

Some 28 enthusiastic Golfers took part in this weeks Wednesday Club Stableford Competition and really enjoyed the fine weather, the Greens holding beautifully but most found the general “Heavy” conditions difficult to handle but not so for both leaders with 38 points. David Burton winning out on count back from Martin Leung while those with 34 or more points each won a Ball.

Lars Fagerstrom also received a Ball as a result of his meanderings presumably for a more thorough examination of the Course conditions. David Thorburn scored the only Two of the day on the 6th whilst Graeme Crocker presumably furthering his claim for Customary Rights on the 4th Par 3 in our Sponsors Prodrive “Nearest the Pin” challenge, by claiming this for the third week in succession – “Acing” the first week, missing the putt on the second and doing so again this week! (The fine will be collected in due course - next week!)

The weekly raffle was won by Chris Pearce holding No 27, second by Kevin Corrin with No 12 and third No 22 held by Mark Dinsdale.

Seven 9 Holers did their thing, eventually returning to the clubhouse to enjoy the succulent offerings in our Cafe.

To reiterate “On a fine day there’s no better place than the Karori Golf Course” so looking forward to seeing you all again next week. Cheers, DS

Safety First

Great to see the white tee block on the 18th is now back in use, some 3 years after it was damaged when the trees along the fence line were cut down. Don’t forget when playing your second (hopefully) shot from the hidden valley to position one of your playing group at the top of the valley, in sight of the tee block, so that the group following you doesn’t tee off while you are still in that part of the valley that is within striking range of them.

Happy golfing, play safely,

Your KGC Committee
