What a great weekend we had last weekend, with glorious golfing weather continuing through to Tuesday. Unfortunately though we are paying for it now. We had a lot of rain on the course yesterday and with a deluge being forecast tonight we have decided to close the course for carts tomorrow. We will review it again on Saturday so if you are planning to play over the weekend with a cart, please ring the shop first to check whether carts are allowed.

This Weekend’s Events

Our women’s Saturday Club are playing Stableford this Saturday but other than that, no events are planned for our course over Easter. This means there are plenty of opportunities to play some social golf, if the weather permits, but don’t forget, you can count these rounds towards your Shootout qualifiers, provide you nominate them as such when you print your scorecard.

Easter Shop Hours

We intend to have the shop open over Easter but given the dire forecast for tonight/tomorrow we may only open for limited hours tomorrow. Please note though that in accordance with our bar licence the bar will not be open on either Good Friday or Easter Sunday.

Anzac Day Tournament

Our next major event is our annual Anzac Day tournament on Tuesday 25 April. This is always a fun day, beginning with breakfast put on by the Committee at 7.30am followed by a remembrance service at 8am and a shotgun start tee off at 8.30. Enter by either adding your name to the entry sheet on the notice board in the downstairs foyer or ring/email the club.

Karori Event Centre Tournament

What an absolutely fantastic day we had last Sunday for the Fundraising Tournament we held for the Karori Event Centre. We had 23 ambrose teams competing in perfect weather with our course looking absolutely stunning, impressing the large number of visitors we had playing. A huge thank you to club member Fleur Nicholas who organised the event, and to her team of helpers who must have got up very early Sunday morning to make all the filled rolls that were eagerly received off the drinks cart by the players. Thanks also to the Lions Club who put on the pre-match barbecue, to Matt Beattie of Instep for generously sponsoring the event, and to the other sponsors Karori New World, Gipp St Deli (how good was that caramel slice!), Whittakers Chocolate, and Prodrive on Thorndon Quay from whom most of the prizes were sourced. And congratulations to the Lips Out team led by Caroline Appleton who won the event with a net 53.5, having scored a gross 61, narrowing pipping Pat Cordue’s Troggs.

Other Recent Results

Last Saturday our men members competed for the Monthly Medal, with Dave Thorburn winning the senior division and Phil Pigou the junior division. Both players now qualify for the Top Dog trophy to be played for at the end of the year.

Our women’s Mary Alward interclub team were also in action last Saturday, playing at home against Titahi Bay. Although they squared the individual matches 4 all they lost the 4-ball matches 1-3 to go down 5-7. However, they still remain in touch with the leaders of the competition. Our women’s Pennants midweek interclub team also played this week, unfortunately going down 5.5 to 0.5 against competition leaders Miramar at Kapiti.

Wednesday Club

KGC Wednesday Club results for 12 April 2017

Yet another wet Wednesday so no competition. The Nes Beard Trophy has now been re-scheduled to be played for on Wednesday 26th April, weather permitting! The raffle carried forward from last week will now be drawn next week. It appears two intrepid 9 Holers turned up and completed their task with some success ie dodged the rain! Cheers and thanks to CP for the report – better luck next week eh! DS

Shop Location

We are planning to relocate the shop from its current corner of the lounge to the opposite corner, next to the stairwell. This will probably happen over the Easter weekend. There are a number of reasons for this, including being a more natural entrance to the club house, creating a bit more space for shop items, avoiding the afternoon sun which makes it difficult to read the till and computer displays, allowing both counters of the bar to be opened, and returning that corner to seating available for members to enjoy a drink in the sun after play.

Jennian Homes 'Twos' Promotion

NZ Golf’s partners at Jennian Homes are running an on-going ‘twos’ promotion, in which they will be giving away hundreds of Srixon golf balls to NZ golf club members each week. All twos recorded on a scorecard entered into the Dot Golf system will automatically be entered into the Jennian Two's draw. Each week, winners will be drawn at random by DotGolf and Jennian Homes will package and send the golf balls to the winners’ respective golf clubs who will pass them onto the winners.

There will be 20 winners each week, 1 dozen golf balls per winner.

Entertainment Books

We will have 2017/18 Entertainment Books available for sale from the club house later this month but note that if you pre-order you will receive some early bird special offers. Either do so at the shop, or if you will be wanting a digital version for your smart phone, order online via the connection below:

Happy Easter

And if the weather forecast has curtailed your holiday plans, hopefully we will see you out on the course instead. Happy golfing, play safely,
